Monday stuff.

I did a Q&A on the Cardinals’ draft over at Future Redbirds. The first commenter made my day.

The dish is the blog equivalent of a cool indie band. Nice.

I’ll be on ESPNEWS today at 3:40 pm EDT, and after that I’m off to the doubleheader at Lowell in case any of you will be in attendance. Feel free to say hi.

If you can read Italian, check out .144, a blog written by a diehard baseball fan in Italy (and a great supporter of the growth of baseball in Italy, and the associated site PlayItUSA, with articles on US-based sports all written in Italian. It’s a good resource if you’re trying to improve your Italian vocabulary, which I’m doing right now in advance of the August visit of one of my cousins from Genova.

  1. if only cursive was actually that cool…ah well

  2. Got to love being compared to Cursive.

  3. I’m glad you found the blog post, and thanks for posting a link. It was either Cursive or Bright Eyes; then my brother told me that Bright Eye’s front man is considered pretentious and snobbish.

  4. Not a pretentious snob? Clearly, he does not like any of the 30 teams you express so much hate and disgust for during the course of your chats. Also, I completely agree that there are cooler, better bands he could have said you were the equivalent of.

  5. unfortunately you and rome disagree on whether to bench the salt or not.

  6. If you wanted the ultimate in indie royalty, the comparison would be something like Sonic Youth, The Replacements, Pixies, or Guided By Voices. For current indie royalty it would be something like LCD Soundsystem, Animal Collective, Spoon, Jens Lekman, Liars or Deerhoof.

Bright Eyes and Cursive are indie, both on Saddle Creek, however the quality isn’t really one to look up to or relish the comparison. Keith, you are much better.

  7. I never got the feeling that Cursive was all that cool. Tim Kasher is just kind of a sad sack. Though I am a huge fan, so I guess the comparison is good enough.

  8. For a person carving out a niche based on good taste, you can’t wear a neon-green tie on ESPN news. Tell the wardrobe people no.

  9. We don’t have wardrobe people – the outfits are all my own. I’ve probably received more compliments on that shirt/tie combo than any other save the purple shirt from draft day.

  10. Can’t argue with that. Give America the ties they demand!

  11. Keith is WAY better the Cursive. Cursive is kinda bad.

  12. “I have always wondered why this didn’t constitute tying, a type of antitrust violation where the purchase of one product is predicated on the simultaneous purchase of another product even though the two products could be sold separately.”

    KLaw,

Would you say the same thing about the cable industry?

I’ve been debating purchasing the CD for the same reason. I might take a walk now and pick it up.

  13. If this blog is like a cool indie band, I guess that means no one will remember it in 20 years?
